Our journey to happiness today will take us further north from Camping la Caleta and into the Murcia region. - The stage initially takes us away from the coast and into the mountains. But we try to get back to the coast as quickly as possible. We soon see the sea. At the same time, the time indicated by our sat nav increases with every kilometer we drive. This could be due to the fact that the roads are very traffic-calmed. Every speed bump is followed by another. So we are "rocked" a little. - The coastal towns are not very spectacular, not to say hideously ugly. We see a little industry and a few ruined buildings. - But the landscape is exciting as soon as you leave the respective town sign behind you. We drive through Carboneras, Ventanicas-el Cantal, Garrucha, San Juan de los Terreros and past Águilas. - After Los Alcázar, we head back towards the mountains. The RM-D20 takes us first uphill and then downhill via hairpin bends. Although this is a slight detour, the scenery is worth it. We are rewarded with a wonderful view. At Los Curas, we drive past another camper site. The campers are lined up next to each other. You have to really like your neighbors to cuddle up so nicely. But as the campers come back year after year, they seem to enjoy it. - "Every pot has a lid" - so it fits!
That would be too tight for us. So we drive on. - We had heard from several sources that the bay of Mazarron, Canada de Gallego, on the Playa de las Covaticas is a good place to stand. There was talk of a former goat meadow, the scent of herbs and a beach that was about 1 kilometer long and 30 meters wide. - What can I say? - As we drive towards the beach, we are left speechless. We drive through a huge plantation, plastic as far as the eye can see. There is supposed to be a beach here
But suddenly the greenhouses stop and lo and behold, the beach is in front of us. There are a few campers here. But there is a path a little further along the beach. We follow it. It gets a little more difficult. Suddenly we see another old camper right on the beach below us. We drive a little further on. Now we have to be careful. The path is washed out. But this is exactly where we find what we are looking for. - 37°32'32.0″N 1°21'58.6″W - A sheltered spot right on the beach - This is how we enjoy the sunset on the beach - A perfect south-facing beach, so we can expect plenty of sun tomorrow.
“Happiness is waking up in a van on the beach."
When we wake up on Valentine's Day, the new day is just dawning. It's just before sunrise. So we enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee in our hands. Once again, we do nothing today. Reading, eating and a little sport. The emphasis is on little!
Then a short walk along the beach - this takes us in the direction of Playa de Percheles, also known as Snake Bay. - An arched bay with palm trees between slate cliffs. - We count about forty campers, all dressed in white, with a lone van in between. - This bay is really beautiful, but we are all the more pleased to have found a quiet spot for ourselves. On the way, we spot a cool IVECO on the beach. A nice Dutch couple. - Let's take a picture.
In between, I ask myself what the plantations behind us remind me of. Then it comes to me. - The original title is Wrapped Andalusia. - An art project by the artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude? - Like back in 1995 in Berlin? - We are unsure.
What else do we do? - Nothing, really nothing. - The perfect Valentine's Day!
