Why did we choose a SpaceCamper and not a VW California?
Keeping things tidy in a California is a real challenge. The bench seat is always in the way. So at least I have regular climbing exercises. Conveniently, you can't get to the back of our storage boxes from the inside. Not from the outside either, at least not when the bikes are mounted on the bike rack and the pop-up roof is raised. - Which is usually the case when we are parked. I hope that the SpaceCamper will make a considerable improvement here. But we won't be able to find out until next year. - So as not to leave the wrong impression, we love our California. - Not because of it, but in spite of it.
Some things at Volkswagen cannot be explained with common sense. - But perhaps I can still find an explanation. The basis for our future home is a VW Caravelle. This is available in three equipment lines: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
There are also two wheelbases. The long wheelbase offers 40 cm more space - forty centimetres can be quite a lot 😉.
Although we really like Hector in "white and black", we want our new one, project name Spector, to be a little less conspicuous, a gray mouse. - That's why mouse gray, or pure gray as it's called at Volkswagen, would also be our preferred color. Especially as it's also standard. - Until then, totally cool. Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to all equipment lines. - Of course, the Trendline base line won't be able to do that, or so we think.
There must be a difference somewhere. But it's the other way around. It works for the basic variant, and also for the short wheelbase. Only with the Comfortline long wheelbase not. Is there a logical explanation for this? The photo shows the Trendline variant. Optically exactly as we would like to have this. - Can this really be? (Note from Torgit: You buy a new car for very, very, very much money and have the choice between completely impossible colors. Can't be, can it?)
