We are not only doing well, no, we are doing very, very well. - We are becoming more and more aware of this in the last few days. - We are healthy and happy. Two values that should not be underestimated. - But does that make us privileged? - I asked myself this question after reading a review about the film "Expedition Happiness" on the one hand. - Also a blogger and self-proclaimed critic rips the film with the words "two privileged early twenties", who "without any plan", "drive around in the area" - The way of making "absolutely unprofessional", "Where they have the money to "just run away" to "no longer care about appointments"? Is not mentioned." 

Her "fun fact: in some cases, it is precisely this overprivileged status that leads to the fact that the children of rich fathers and mothers, who happily make music to themselves, can later fall back on family-acquired capital (security cushion!) and therefore explicitly do not need a career at all in order to accumulate money or prestige." - Where the author got her detailed knowledge is not mentioned either. 

In this context, I notice that we also did not mention where we got the money for our tour. - But we were not asked either. - Why we have not mentioned this so far? - Maybe because both Torgit and I were brought up with the words "You don't talk about money". - Is that why we are privileged or even overprivileged? 

I've been asking myself this question more often in recent days. - Because let's not kid ourselves, the impression cannot be dismissed out of hand. But is it only an impression or does it correspond to the fact? After we now also sell our household piece by piece and due to lack of flea markets post quite a bit in social media, piled up "of course" not only positive, but also quite a few, negative comments. "How can you take such prices in times of Corona?" - "Why are your things so expensive?"...? - Such questions are absolutely fine. - You don't have to answer them, but you can.

Perhaps the next question is, how could and can they afford it in the first place? - "Constantly touring the area..." Which brings us back to the topic of overprivileged. - I could answer "Envy is something you have to work hard for, pity is something you get as a gift" - but I won't. - That would be too easy. But it is also a fact that neither Torgit nor I are "children of rich fathers and mothers happily making music". - Doesn't that also mean mothers and fathers? 

We are both children from working-class families. And if you learn anything in working-class families, it's to work, work a lot, work hard, and work some more. Torgit didn't just work one job, she almost always had two jobs at the same time. She worked so much that eventually it was too much. Almost everything in life has its revenge. - In my case it was only one job (or as I say my vocation), but again it was many, many hours. Nothing against the 35 hour week, I have always done, just twice a week 😉 That is no complaint, because I was allowed to work without thinking of "finally Friday". But after 33 years of self-employment, I also know what up, down, up, down, up means. Because that's self-employment too, and not just self and constant.

As I said, this is not a complaint, quite the opposite, because I am far too grateful that I was allowed to create something, that I had a task that has excited me over the years, always anew. - Accompanying people on their way into their own homes was my calling. "You don't just sell a house, you shape the future for generations. You create a new center of life for a family. Even if the location changes, the value remains." - Have you heard of me before? I'm not surprised. - Maybe this was my mantra 😉 .

Our many years of work allow us not only to acquire values, but also to live our dream instead of just dreaming. On the other hand, we worked so much that we didn't have time to think about plan B at all. I'm sure that's how it is for many people. They run and run in their wheel. Some surely just feel that there is something different, something else. Will they all return to their bikes "after Corona"? I don't know. - I even go so far as to ask myself who was or is on the right trip. - We who have previously managed for years or the surfer we met on the beach. "I can't afford a regular job, then I wouldn't have time to surf." - I've only asked myself twice in my life whether the person I'm talking to is crazy or I am. This was the one time. The other time was when I visited a workshop for the disabled a few years ago, just before Christmas. When I saw all the good-humored, laughing people, I was just not sure. - As you can see, I am capable of criticism, at least within limits. 

And this is exactly where I see the difference. - Both of my siblings, like me, have learned to work hard. Both are familiar with all aspects of self-employment. - I had already written that my brother "used to" always want to be finished by the time he was forty. Who says A must also say B? You don't have to, you can! - That's exactly what we did. We decided on B. Our plan B. - We dared to simply planBwagen. 

Am I, are we, therefore once again back to the question, privileged or even overprivileged? From my point of view, a very clear no. What do you think of the following compromise?

PS: If someone still asks the question about the cost of our tour, the following info: We were positively surprised how cheap travel can be. But this certainly also depends a little on how you live on the road. Since we cook on the way predominantly and rather rarely in the restaurant dine, one of the substantial cost drivers is omitted here already. If you value good food, you will find that sausage and cheese are more expensive, but fruit is cheaper. - Since we have our solar bag, we have become more independent of campsites. This also saves us money. - So we were on average about 1,000, - € for food, electricity, water, pitches and gasoline (diesel). I have deliberately not written 500, - € per person, because that would certainly not fit. An essential factor, which is missing here, is the health, or foreign travel health insurance. The first is individual and depends on whether you are privately or legally insured. The second one can be calculated with about 2,- € per day. Other insurances for car & Co. depend on the individual insurance coverage.

PPS: My brother wanted to be finished by the time he was forty, but today, at just over 60, he'd rather have more, faster, farther... - It doesn't matter which step you take. - The main thing is to be happy. That's why I'm glad to see that he seems happy with his path. Must ask him again on occasion 😉 - Maybe I want later again higher ... - But now we want only one thing "Back to the road" ...
