Today we alternate between rain and sun. From Au Chant des Oiseau we drive overland again. Gonneville-sur-Mer, Varaville, Colombelles and Mondeville. Here we cross the Canal de Caen à la Mer and take advantage of this for a siesta right by the canal.

The route continues via Camilly, Le Bout Cachard and many other small villages and clusters of houses. The route is characterized by avenues, cornfields, maize, huge paddocks, etc. Shades of yellow and green alternate. But we are particularly impressed by the beautiful old walls. Weathered sandstone, shutters in white or dove blue, often covered with slate. Every now and then a half-timbered house.

Suddenly we are on the outskirts of Bayeux. We can already see the towers of an impressive Gothic-style cathedral from afar. We spontaneously decide to explore the medieval town center on foot. Notre-Dame de Bayeux reminds us of the book "The Pillars of the Earth".

Right in the "front garden" of the cathedral stands a 33-metre-high plane tree, which was planted in 1797 in the old courtyard of the episcopal ensemble of Bayeux. A tree that can cover a cathedral, impressive. Around the cathedral are old patrician houses. You can literally feel the time in this city. Especially the city's gratitude to the Allied liberators. We are just grateful that we were driven here spontaneously. We cross the country again. Again and again, the picture is characterized by military cemeteries. Canadians, Englishmen... You can feel that we are approaching our destination of Vierville-sur-Mer and therefore Omaha Beach. But it's not a war cemetery that encourages us to linger again, but the small village cemetery in Vaucelles - realization of the day: if you let yourself drift, hours have passed once again, although the sat nav only said 90 minutes.
