Today we are heading from the Krka waterfalls back towards Zadar. But only in that direction, because we leave Zadar to our left to get to Pag. Although Pag is an island, the Pak Bridge, Paški most, connects it to the mainland in the south. The next moment you feel like you've landed on the moon. There is hardly any vegetation on the southern tip. Nevertheless, it is worth taking the first turn to the left immediately after the bridge. From here you reach the "Fortica" ruins. From there you have a wonderful view of the bridge and the nearby mainland.
Our destination is Camping Village Šimuni, about 35 minutes north-west of the Pag bridge. As we drive north, we keep seeing salt pans. There is evidence that the white gold of Bug has been extracted on the island for at least 1,000 years. As our tour north leads directly through the village of Pag, we take the opportunity for a short visit. A nice, but not exciting little town. We are more fascinated by the barren landscape.
Camping Village Šimuni offers everything your heart desires. We are lucky enough to be offered a pitch right at the northern end of the campsite, right next to the beach. We grab it immediately. Only afterwards do we realize that, from our point of view, this is one of the most beautiful pitches on the huge campsite. We are far away from restaurants and entertainment and can enjoy the peace and quiet. This place offers everything: if you want to enjoy peace and quiet like us, you'll find it. But those who want entertainment will also find it. - There are several restaurants and bars. Our friend Micha, who was here just a few days ago, had good things to say. - But we would rather have a barbecue. - So we enjoy two relaxing days on the beach with a view of the island of Otok Maun.
Insight of the day: There's nothing like having your own barbecue.
