When we arrive by ferry in Valbiska on the island of Krk in the evening, we quickly have to find a place to spend the night. We had been warned about wild camping on the islands. So we quickly make our way to the Glavotok campsite in the village of the same name on the north-eastern side of Krk. There we discover that the campsite is already closed. But we are allowed to park next to the barrier, right on the beach. In the morning, we use the campsite's sanitary facilities. Then we drive on. This was an exceptionally good value overnight stay 😉
Today we explore the towns of Krk in the west and Vrbnik in the east of the island. Vrbnik is situated on a cliff that drops steeply into the sea, so it's always up and down through the small, winding alleyways. And narrow is not an expression at all. The houses are close together and seem to nestle against each other. There is practically no engine noise, as the alleyways are too narrow even for a Fiat 500. The only noise comes from chattering tourists. They say this is the narrowest alleyway in the world and I promptly get stuck. Torgit is a little narrower or cleverer, it goes right around the outside. So we explore the rest of the town, the cathedral and the library. But it feels like we've seen everything before we know it. - Time to try the golden yellow Zlahtina, the delicious white wine from the region. Afterwards, we buy some olive oil and move on.
At Camp Njivice we find what we need again. By chance? - No, it just happens to be what's due. - We get the last pitch, right on the beach and at the end of the campsite. Situated right on the water, we enjoy a little beach vacation here. - We quickly pump up the SUP and explore the coast. In the evening, we fire up the barbecue again. The various konoba, i.e. restaurants, have earned little from us on this vacation.
Now I have to add my two cents. Very nice blog! As we are going to Croatia with our kids during the Whitsun vacation and want to visit three islands, I was very interested in your Croatia blog. Then in the summer we're going to Spain and Portugal.
Nice saying: coincidence? - No, it only happens when it's due.
