Rivers burst their banks, trees were uprooted, fish were thrown onto the beach and a lot of garbage was washed up on the beaches. - That's not nice, of course. Of course, you could ask yourself why, in this case, "the Spaniards" cleaned up the towns first and then the beach at the bird sanctuary. - "I would also clean up after myself first"
